Young-Adult Book Reviews

Origin (Lux Series #4)

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

This book will make you cry in the first 10 pages. When Katy and Daemon are separated, it is the worst thing ever. There are many heart-grabbing surprises and the ending is such an unexpected cliffhanger that you won't be able to rest for a second until you start the last book.

Overview:

Daemon will do anything to get Katy back. After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he's facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly.  Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don't seem entirely crazy, but the group's goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on? And will they even be together?

Opal (Lux Series #3)

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Jennifer Armentrout takes the plot to a whole new level when she brings back Blake Saunders, who you will feel such a strong hatred for him that it will be like you lived through his betrayals yourself. There are intense relationship dramas and by the time you reach the last page, you will be feeling the heartbreak... in a good way :)

Overview:

After everything, I'm no longer the same Katy. I'm different... And I'm not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I'm capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won't turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we're stronger... and they know it.

Shadows (Lux Series Novella)

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

This short Novella from Dawson's point of view is so sweet and is the definition of what the perfect relationship would be. Love at first sight, sappy romance that will make you swoon in your seat, and a boyfriend that looks at you like you are a goddess. This book is perfect because you don't have to read it after the other books even though you can. The content won't confuse you if you read it first and it is perfect if you need a quick dose of extra terrestrial hottness.

Overview:

The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. To him, human girls are... well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane. Dangerous.

Bethany can't deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren't a complication she wants, whenever they lock eyes, she's drawn in. Captivated.

Dawson can't stop risking everything for one human girl. Or stop a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

Obsidian (Lux Series #1)

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Jennifer Armentrout does a nice job of combining romance and action in this novel. Although the plot is a bit cliché, the storyline will draw you in and you will become connected to the characters. Daemon is a swoon-worthy piece of "man meat" and his relationship with Katy is so sweet and infuriating, you will laugh and cry right along with them.

Overview:

When seventeen-year-old Katy Swartz moved to West Virginia right before her senior year, she'd pretty much resigned herself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring, but then she spotted her hoot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up... until he opened his mouth. Daemon Black is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. It's hate at first sight, but when a stranger attacks her and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens. The hot guy next door? Well, he's an alien. Turns out that Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities and Katy is caught in the crosshairs. Daemon's touch has lit her up like the Vegas Strip and the only way she's getting out of this alive is by sticking close to him until her alien mojo fades. That is if she doesn't kill him first.

Opposition (Lux Series #5)

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

In the conclusion of this epic series, Armentrout introduces the whole new problem of Luxen invading Earth, which tests Daemon and Katy's relationship and shows how strong they are together. The ending wraps up the whole series in a nice, adorable little bow. The ending is so satisfying, that you won't be that upset that the story doesn't go on forever. This was a nice twist to conclude a great series and I recommend it to everyone.

Overview:

Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came. She can't believe Daemon stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred.

Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world  is crumbling around them, they may lose everything to ensure the survival of their friends... and mankind.

Paranormal

Onyx (Lux Series #2)

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

In the second book of the Lux series, Jennifer Armentrout continues Katy and Daemon's relationship and expands the story line adding a level of romance, mystery, and betrayal that draws you into the story. There are cliffhanging surprises and mind grabbing twists. I really enjoyed this read and highly recommend it.

Overview:

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks...

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon's determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizzaro connection. So I've sworn him off, even though he's running more hot than cold these days. But we've got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town...

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I'm a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who's got a secret of his own. He knows what's happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes...

I've seen someone who shouldn't be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he's never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them--from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies...
